By 1830, William Weller was offering twice-weekly stage coach service with imported Irish horses.[1] One of the earlier stagecoach routes was set up in 1817 between Montreal, Quebec and Kingston, Upper Canada; the next year the routes expanded to run from Kingston to the Town of York (now the City of Toronto). A fledging, growing business, the Bank of Montreal opened a bank branch in York and needed a way to pass money and papers back and forth. The stagecoach filled the bill. Leaving Montreal, “every Monday and Thursday,” the stagecoaches “arrived in Kingston every Wednesday and Saturday.” The trips to other branches were longer. Between Montreal and York, the journey occupied at least a week.[2] REF[1] - books.google.com - Riverdale: East of the Don By: Elizabeth Muir REF[2] - suite.io - The Stagecoach Era By: Susanna Mcleod 1 Dollar - Elizabeth II Kingston Stagecoach Source: en.numista.org Non circulating issue KM# 210 Features Country Canada Year 1992 Value 1 Dollar 1 CAD = 0.80 USD Metal Silver (.9250) Weight 25.175 g Diameter 36.07 mm Thickness 2.95 mm Engravers Dora de Pédery-Hunt (obverse) Karsten Smith (reverse) Shape Round Orientation Medal alignment ↑↑ Edge Reeded REF |
